On Elburn's Future
Last night, Trustee Jeff Metcalf and I talked to three reporters about Elburn, the future, and what's in store for 2005. We both fully expect Metra passenger service to begin in Elburn next year, and we also expect that the project to remove trace levels of radium from our deep well water supply will be brought online as well.
Next year we expect to hear about two big Federal issues that affect Elburn. The TEA-LU transportation bill that contains our $10 million Anderson Road overpass should makes its way through Congress to President Bush's desk, and the Federal Railroad Administration is supposed to publish their final quiet zone rules by April 1, 2005.
Getting an overpass for Elburn, and establishng a Elburn quiet zone for train horns have been top priority issues for our village for several years.
Next Monday, December 6th, 2004 our village board will be considering a proposal to fund a $2000 feasibility study to evaluate the possibility that we could create a family aquatic center here in Elburn. Since I have been village mayor obtaining a community pool has been the single most requested amenity in which our residents have expressed an interest.
A feasibility study is a very preliminary step in a long process to establish a community pool, but we will be looking to gage the community's reaction to this proposal. There is a "way" to make this amenity happen for Elburn. It remains to be seen if there is a "will."
